Description

Starting at the Visitor Center, the Eagle Valley Trail is a 4.5 mile loop trail. For most of the trail, youll be moving over packed gravel, though behind the Visitor Center the trail becomes natural dirt. This is a great trail for families, as the trail is well marked, and it is difficult to get lost. The facilities present at the Visitor Center will be the only ones along the way.

Visitors taking the trail in a clockwise fashion will first encounter a gentle descent into the Carr Creek Valley. A series of long switchbacks lead to the valley floor, where the terrain becomes relatively flat. As the trail flattens out, visitors will notice the lush vegetation and abundant wildflowers. Small seeps and springs provide water enough for the vegetation and creek alike. The trail will cross the creek multiple times, and flash flooding is a risk on this trail.

The trail will continue sharply to the west at the site of a failed dam. As the trail continues on the west, it will base the base of a large, open hillside populated with prairie grasses and vegetation.

The final leg of the rail is a climb out of the valley. Visitors will gain the ridge through a series of switchbacks. Luckily, this portion of trail is shaded by the dense woods surrounding the equestrian campground.

From there, it is a short jaunt back to the Visitors Center and the starting point. In winter months, portions of this trail are used for cross country skiing.
