Description

The nearly flat Foothills South Trail can be done in either direction and in various sections. Combine it with the Foothills North Trail and even the Foothills Bench Trail for an epic north-south adventure.

Starting from the Fourmile Creek Trail off Lee Hill Drive, the Foothills South Trail heads south and would normally cross the Fourmile Creek over a small bridge. However, after the 2013 floods, this bridge was destroyed and as of Spring 2015, there is still no replacement. When the water is flowing, this means you either rock hop across or remove shoes and wade. In either case, use caution- the water can be fast moving and unpredictable especially after it rains in the foothills.

Smooth sailing after this obstacle! The trail is wide, smooth and well maintained. Enjoy the views south of the side-on Flatirons, Green Mountain and Bear Peak. Pass the junction of the Old Kiln Trail and approach the fenced Off-Leash Dog Park to the east. The fields of tall grass and wildflowers continue as you follow the western edge of the Foothills Community Park. There are paths heading east from multiple points along the Foothills South Trail providing access to the neighborhoods or nearby parks. Just after the junction with the Wonderland Hill Glider Trail to the west, the Foothills South Trail ends at a T-intersection with the Wonderland Lake Loop Trail.

This is a multi-use trail so expect to see bikers and users with dogs.
