Description

Ryan Mountain is the fourth highest point in Joshua Tree. Located at the end of a moderately strenuous hike, this summit provides views of Pinto Basin, Lost Horse Valley, Queen Valley, and Pleasant Valley. The mountain top itself has a wonderfully diverse selection of plants, lichens, and small animals.

Evidence of a tribal gathering spot at the trailhead is worth a look even for groups who aren't capable of ascending to the peak.

Short Hike: From a the trailhead with ample parking it's only a 1.5 mile hike. That 1.5 miles does has a 1000+ ft elevation gain up an Ace Venture-esque amount of steps and no shade. It's very unwise to attempt this hike during summer except very early or very late and to be very careful during rainy season due to slippery stairs and lightning.

Nice hike. Cold on the way up until I hit the sun. Not too strenuous, most of the higher incline had steps, took about an hour.
