Boca Cave [Suggest Edits]

Description

Boca Cave is situated on a steep cliff on the east face of Triangulation Peak and has a perfectly framed view of Mount Jefferson from its mouth. This makes it a pretty unique view, well worth the hike. The limited crowds make it all the better (but don't expect solitude).

There is quit a bit of room inside the cave which is also much cooler than outside on a hot summer day. Be sure to finish the hike up to Triangulation Peak's summit for 360-degree views as a bonus.

Half-Day Hike: The easiest way to access Boca Cave is to park at the Triangulation Peak trailhead off of NF-650 accessible via NF-2233. This will result in a 5 mile round trip hike with only about 1,000 feet of elevation gain. You can also start at Cheat Creek TH or South Breitenbush Th for much longer (both ~12-13 mi RT and ~3,000ft EG) but far less crowded ways up. Either way take Triangulation Peak Trail #3373 to Triangulation Peak Trail #3374. Once near the top keep an eye out for the unsigned dusty singletrack leading east past some nice camp sites. Follow this down to the SE through the recent burn area. The unmaintained trail gets very steep and is quite loose so tread carefully. The trail then wraps down and back north along the eastern cliff face of the mountain. The cave will appear - climb in and enjoy!
