Description

This hike begins at the parking area near the future boat launch on the newly created Duck River Reservoir in Cullman, AL. The trail winds its way along the reservoir with gentle grades, sweeping turns, and few rocks. This particular route is most often taken as an out-and-back hike that ends at the CR-1669 before the North Trail extension. It is possible to follow it to the West Side Trail for a twenty-mile hike.

The trail begins just up the entrance road from the parking area at a small grove trees. Almost immediately, it enters a clearing with excellent views of the reservoir before continuing to re-enter and exit cleared areas at random intervals. Although there is some climbing, it's neither long nor steep.

Approximately halfway to the end of the trail, there is a second trailhead at the dead end of CR-1651 on the east side of the reservoir. The second half is slightly more difficult than the first half, owing to the presence of some stream crossings and rocky sections.

Once you reach CR-1669 (there will be a bridge to the left), you can return the way you came or continue on the North Trail.
