Family Friendly A great easy option for the family to explore the campground, day use area, and access the John Day River

Description

This is an easy trail that, along with the Sage Steppe Trail, forms a loop around the campground and day use areas. The trail follows the edge of the John Day River and has a few official access points to the river; however, the tall grasses occasionally obscure direct views of the water.

You'll be treated to nice views of the cliffs across the river. The trail begins (or ends) near the barn / entrance to the park on one end and the Pinnacles Trail and Sage Steppe Trail at the other end under a nice shade tree.

Along the way you'll pass the barn area, dog park, tent campground, and RV campground. The trail is wide and made with a lot of gravel fill so it's easy going year-round.
