Need to Know

Dogs must be on leash year-round on this trail and to the east.
This is a mixed use trail that is very popular with mountain bikers who are typically descending. Be sure to share the trail.
This area lacks official maps, only has a few signs, and is covered in informal trails and private property. It's open so it's hard to get properly lost, but be careful and take Hiking Project with you.

Description

This trail is often also often called Labyrinth. To get to this trail you'll have to take Old Highway 8 from either trailhead or pick it up farther uphill from one of the other trails in the area. From the very beginning you'll start passing through cool rock formations of basalt exposed by the Missoula Floods. You'll pass under oaks that offer some shade and over some loose rock sections before the trail comes to Labyrinth Creek.

Soon you'll come to Labyrinth Falls which is quite lovely in the wet season but likely dry in the summer/fall. Eventually you cross the creek on a single-board bridge and head out of the trees. Keep an eye out for rock climbers on the columnar basalt up above you. Soon thereafter the trail will climb out of the scab land and level out in open meadows. Enjoy the spectacular views of Mount Hood and the Gorge. The trail ends at a fork intersection with Upper Labyrinth Trail #4424 and Loose Lucy Trail.

Flora & Fauna

Be mindful of rattlesnakes and ticks. Horned lark are ground nesting birds common to the area. Tons of wildflowers during spring.

Labyrinth Creek Falls is small but pleasant when it's flowing.

Went up Labyrinth, across to Old Ranch Rd, then to Coyote Wall. Had to navigate around private property due to lack of signs, but truly amazing views! 2mi — 0h 50m
