Family Friendly A short hike to a nice waterfall.

Overview

There is no need to pack super heavy for this outing (though a waterbottle is always a good idea). The short out-and-back hike is a great option for families on a warm summer day.

Description

This hike starts out from the parking area and heads into the forest along the Thunderbird Falls Trail. The trail follows the Eklutna Creek the entire length. The trail is rather level with little elevation change and is very well-maintained. A little over a half of a mile into the hike you'll reach a junction. Take a right to head up to a platform that serves as an overlook for the falls. From there, you can either return how you came, or take the other trail down into the canyon to reach the base of the falls. Careful here though! The trail down and along the creek to the falls can be a little slick sometimes, so watch your footing.

It is not encouraged to explore beyond the falls as the rock is slippery and could be dangerous.
