Description

From Main Street in Jamestown, bear right onto a broad gravel road past a few houses. The trail climbs steadily, switchbacking around an old mine at 0.4 miles, then alternates between aspen forest, pines, and glorious open meadows for another mile. Lather, rinse, repeat. Finally the grade steepens and the forest deepens before you emerge on the open saddle below Nugget Hill.

From here, the rough FS509.1 road leads west (uphill) or FS509.3D road leads east (uphill). If precipitous, loose downhill is your wish, continue south down FS509.1 and drop into the Lefthand Valley.

Or, here's a crazy idea: turn around and descend that beautiful trail back to Jamestown and get a snack at the Mercantile!

Coming down the trail you can see the old mine. This is a fun relaxing walk through the wood away from crowds.
