Both trailheads are found along the park road. The northern trailhead is tucked under trees with a small wooden bridge marking the entrance. The southern trailhead has a metal gate and looks like a fire access road. Once on the trail, it quickly turns to doubletrack mixed with singletrack. The trail has lots of smaller rocks and roots, but nothing notable.

Starting at the southern trailhead, hikers climb the entire way to the 90-degree turn in the trail. The climb is gentle and the trail is smooth enough to make it very manageable. The turn marks the end of significant climbs; although there is a slight uphill, it is insignificant. Hikers will be able to see out ahead since the trail is so straight in this section and the tree canopy is high. At the end of the straight-away, hikers make another 90-degree turn, this time heading back down the hill paralleling Penny Run.

Once out of the woods, hikers can head to the campgrounds for the Nature Trail or Lowlands Trail or head towards the park office for some rugged singletrack on the north side of the lake (Adams Run, Orchard Trail, and Hunters Ridge).
