Family Friendly The easy-to-navigate trail and shorter distance make this a great outing for the whole family.

Overview

This trail is perfect for a nice and easy hike with few barriers. It has both woodland trail and wetland areas. The trail is perfect for bringing the kids. If you start near the Haven Hill Barn, you can read about the landmark before you start your outing.

Description

This mild loop is a lovely course with slight elevation changes. Along the way, the trail features four types of forest found in the state of Michigan, which provides an excellent learning opportunity. The trail passes through both woods and wetland areas, and the trail is wide and easy-to-follow.

There are several other loops in the area including the Blue Trail and the Red Trail which share part of their route with the Green Trail loop. The Green Trail is the longest of these three loop trails, taking hikers on a loop of the perimeter of Haven Hills Natural Area. If you are looking for a shorter hike or, alternatively, wanting to add miles to your loop, you can easily take one of these other trails to add some variety to your route.

This seemed like a popular trail—we saw quiet a few other trail users while we were out.

Flora & Fauna

A great variety of flora including trees like tamarack, cedar, beech, maple, oak, and hickory.
