Respect the private property of the Gazos Tree Farm and turn around at the No Trespassing sign.

Description

The Butano Fire Road starts on the paved Cloverdale Road. From there, climb a hillside of grassland and coastal scrub with good views of the surrounding countryside.

As you work your way away from the coast, you enter a forest of Douglas-fir and redwoods. There is a view at the junction with the Jackson Flats Trail, which runs to the south.

Continue climbing. The road turns east and passes an abandoned runway.

Descend into a grove of old-growth redwoods. Pass by Butano Trail Camp and the intersection with the Indian Trail.

Climb again and pass the intersection with Olmo Fire Road. Two miles farther on, the road reaches the Butano State Park boundary.

From the park boundary, the road continues through the private property of Gazos Tree Farm to Big Basin State Park, but a no-trespassing sign indicates that this section is off-limits.
