Family Friendly While a full excursion on this trail might be a bit much for younger kids, taking shorter portions of this out-and-back will provide great opportunities to see wildlife.

Overview

The Seven Oaks Preserve Trail is a moderate, 2.8-mile one way, or 4.9 mile round trip, trail that follows the banks of Lake Wylie and is great for all skill levels, located near Belmont, NC.

Description

As an out-and-back, a full trip on this natural surface trail makes for a solid 5.6-mile trip. The trail is part of the Carolina Thread Trail located on 78 acres of property that is conserved by the Catawba Lands Conservancy. The trail also connects to Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden's trail which can create a 5-mile loop from the trailhead.

The Seven Oaks Preserve Trail meanders along the shoreline of Lake Wylie and provides great views of the lake along with the opportunity to see plenty of wildlife. The trail connects to the Persimmon Trail in Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden and hikers can continue along the backside of the parking lot along the Boulevard Trail and then hop on the Worrell Trail which connects back to the Seven Oaks Preserve Trail making a nice loop.

Note that bikes are not allowed on the Daniel Stowe Botanical Garden's trails.

Flora & Fauna

Along the trail, visitors may encounter wild turkeys, turtles, osprey, eagles, kingfishers, native wildflowers stand beside some magnificent swamp chestnut oak trees.
