Description

The Scotts Lake Trail is a great option for those looking to embark on a relatively short, half-day journey out to the solitude of an isolated lake complete with a rather peculiar shoreline.

Starting at the Big Meadow Trailhead Parking Area, follow the Tahoe Rim Trail south to a junction with the Scotts Lake Trail. Turn left at the junction, and follow the trail through primarily evergreen forests peppered with the occasional stand of white-barked aspen trees. During the fall, these aspens provide visitors with a real treat as they erupt in vibrant gold leaves.

Keep trekking through the forest until it suddenly opens up and Scotts Lake appears before you. Take time to enjoy the secluded nature of this lake, and pay attention to the peculiarly high number of stumps emerging from beneath the lake water as well as dotting the shoreline.

After enjoying your time at the lake, simply return along the path you came.
