Family Friendly A nice mellow hike. A stop in at the museum makes it educational, too!

Description

To access this trail from Pine Spring Campground, take Tejas Trail north from the parking area and at the junction take a right onto Foothills Trail.

From here, the trail descends a gentle grade following the braided Delaware River. After about 1.3 miles, when the trail levels off, it turns north and heads away from the river. It follows the road, passing behind the Frijole Ranch History Museum. The trail ends at the junction with Smith Spring Trail. To reach the museum, take a right on Smith Spring Trail and then follow the road south to the museum entrance.

Enjoy the desert landscape then stop by the museum to learn a little about the history of the area. This trail is commonly used in conjunction with Frijole Trail to make a nice mellow loop through the Chihuahuan Desert.

There is no potable water along this trail and little shade; come prepared for desert hiking!

At the very start of the hike, you cross a dry river bed. It is quite wide and must be an awesome sight when water is flowing through it.
