A Washington state Sno-Park Permit is required for parking. Additionally the Special Groomed Trail Permit is required to park in the Selkirk Lodge parking lot for access to this Nordic Skiing Trail System.

During the spring, summer and fall months (April 1 through November 30) this is a hiking trail. A Washington State Discover Pass is required for parking.

Description

Upper Tripp's Loop is a wide forest road style trail that descends gradually (in this description) over it's entire length. However, it can be hiked/skied in either direction. Having no trailheads, it becomes part of a longer route.

Upper Tripp's Loop is found at a signed trail junction along Mica Road. Following the trail sign, Upper Tripp's Loop heads off in an open area of grasses and low shrubs. Traveling along a hillside that's part of the Mt. Spokane complex, Mt. Spokane is close by, across the valley to the right/northwest.

After about 0.6 miles, the trail veers right/east to continue on the north side of a ridge with views of the valley below and mountains into the distance. The Tamarama trail is passed at the 0.8 mile mark as Upper Tripp's Loop enters the beautiful conifer forest.

Continuing on along the forested hillside, the trail winds around in the forest for the rest of it's journey. In places, views to the north are good due to the steepness of the hillside that drops off to the left. And in other places, the trail is just in beautiful forest.

After a total of 2.9 miles, Upper Tripp's Loop passes Lower Tripp's Loop on the left, then turns right and ends at a trail junction where Tripp's Knob Spur and Lower Outer Limits are found.

During the winter, as part of the Mount Spokane State Park's Nordic Skiing Trail System, this trail is groomed for classic and skate skiing.

Note: this trail is a section of the M8 forest road on Inland Empire Paper Company land, in case you are curious about strange signs you may come across.
