This is an easy trail that, along with the Sage Steppe Trail
, forms a loop around the campground and day use areas. The trail follows the edge of the John Day River and has a few official access points to the river; however, the tall grasses occasionally obscure direct views of the water.
You'll be treated to nice views of the cliffs across the river. The trail begins (or ends) near the barn / entrance to the park on one end and the Pinnacles Trail
and Sage Steppe Trail
at the other end under a nice shade tree.
Along the way you'll pass the barn area, dog park, tent campground, and RV campground. The trail is wide and made with a lot of gravel fill so it's easy going year-round.
