Need to Know

The trails are braided and it could be very easy to accidentally cross the border into Mexico (I know I did). Bring plenty of water and remember how to get back.

Migrants and drugs come through this area, so be aware.

Description

The road for the first 1.6 miles has been reinforced to allow the cellular company to get to its tower. Going slowly, we were able to make it to a small parking lot in a Subaru with little problem. Further than that, you'd need an ATV or ORV.

This trail (and this area) seems to encourage meandering. ATV's, trucks, and hikers have cut braided trails that weave around the area. The cacti are easy to avoid, the land is open, and the rock formations are fascinating in a way that can make you wander for hours. As such, the line of this trail is more a suggestion than a direct line through the wilderness. There are no distinct trail markers and the border with Mexico is nothing more than a feeble barbed-wire fence. In the rocky areas, there is nothing at all.
