The Pines Extension

To reach this trail, start at the Forest Service gate off of Williams Road. As you head onto the Pond Mountain Trail you'll notice a fork in the trail near the beginning. You'll want to take the trail on the right, this is Unaka Trail (Hooks Branch Road #31B). Follow this old logging road bed about 0.15 miles.

At this point, Unaka Trail (Hooks Branch Road #31B) will go left (towards Pond Mountain) and the other on the right drops down and goes through a young pine thicket which looks like singletrack; this is The Pines Extension. As you head down The Pines Extension, the trail will curve back towards the end of Matson Drive. At the end, the trail stops in a somewhat clear open area; this is where you'll then turn around and hike it back. Have an awesome hike and be safe!
