Description
Park in the parking lot near the infantry post blockhouses. There is a trailhead marker to the south of the parking lot, and you can take the
Young Hawk Interpretive Trail to reach the marker. The trail starts high on a hill overlooking the Missouri River valley, and the partially reconstructed cavalry post and is a nice spot for photographs.
Continue on the trail that winds through woody draws going to down the bluffs to the Missouri River valley. In the spring, you'll be greeted with plum, honeysuckle, and currant blossoms. Deer are frequently seen along the trail, as well as a variety of birds. The trail ends at the horse camping area in the southwest corner of the park but can be made a loop with the
Bloody Knife's Loop East. The trail is open to hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking.
