Kids (and adults) will feel like ants next to these giant trees. Also, this trail provides a great opportunity to learn about the preservation efforts being made to save these spectacular trees.
Kauri trees grow along these trails. Please use the gear cleaning stations at the start and end of your hike to prevent the spread of Kauri dieback.
Description
The Upper Kauri Trail passes through a significant grove of mature and ricker kauri. These ancient giants are truly impressive for both their girth and age.
The track starts approximately 100m upstream from the swing bridge. Please be sure to use the gear cleaning station on the
Auckland City Walk to clean your shoes and gear before starting.
The Upper Kauri Track branches off of the
Auckland City Walk and is a well-maintained gravel track with some boardwalk sections that ascends to the bluff-top ridge in the first mile. This section features the most impressive of the Kauri, their broad and ancient shoulders overshadowing the younger sections of the forest.
After the first mile, the track levels out a bit and then continues up a long, gentle ascent to its intersection with
Long Road Track.
Flora & Fauna
