“A lovely loop with woods, a stream, and a waterfall.
”
Family Friendly
This track is a family favorite with something for everyone to enjoy.
Kauri trees grow along these trails. Please use the gear cleaning stations at the start and end of your hike to prevent the spread of Kauri dieback.
Description
This short loop trail is a great option for families or beginners. It offers a great introduction to the area, and is a very pretty outing if you are short on time. Along the way, hikers will pass by several spectacular kauri trees, one with a width of 6.5 meters, interspersed with many larger totara.
The track follows along the bank of the Waitakere Stream, and a short side track leads up to Cascade Falls. Once past this short spur, the main track continues across a wooden bridge and along the stream to a second bridge before looping back to the picnic area on Falls Road.
Flora & Fauna
Lowland podocarp and broadleaf forest interspersed with the magnificent kauri and totara.
