Overview
Between KU Med and the Southwest Blvd industrial area lies the Rozark
Trail--a mostly singletrack mountain bike trail open to hikers and runners.
The trail begins at the Rosedale Memorial Arch, then weaves down a cliff side toward SW Blvd. Lots of rocky and, at times, steep terrain. The trails are not always well-marked, but the area is small enough that it would be hard to get lost.
Gaia GPS and the paper map helped us keep oriented, but you can also bring along the
Hiking Project mobile app to keep track of your location.
Need to Know
You can spend hours here or just a few minutes, since it's 20 minutes from just about anywhere.
Description
The trail descends steeply into the woods along the cliffside. At the first marker, you can take a hard right on the
Marty's Woods trail to the Pump Pit. Past the Pump Pit the trail curves back. This trail can be steep, rocky, and runs close to the cliff edge.
There is an unmarked trail to the right that takes you to the Maccaque
Trail. We will do that trail soon and update this description. Going straight at the first marker takes you to the
Gnomes' Garden trail. Enjoy the beautiful rock formations and if you are perceptive enough, the nature spirits that live there. This trail is rocky at times, but is fairly level.
This trail and
Marty's Woods rejoin and lead you to Fisher Park.
Marty's Woods trail continues, but it was a bit confusing to us. It is supposed to lead to the Mission Cliffs Loop. We never found it.
History & Background
Rosedale Memorial Arch is a World War I memorial modeled after the L'Arc de Triomphe.
