The Preserve is close during summer - between June and September - due to typically high water conditions on the ranch.

Description

Kite Flight is the newest of the mountain bike trails developed by the Mudcutters biking organization on the Pepper Ranch Preserve. This narrow trail traverses a berm originally built for water management of pastures back when the ranch was farmed. The trail is shared use between those on foot and mountain biking, but is very narrow.

The trail provides beautiful views into the hardwood and cypress forests flanking it to the west, and also into the pasture on the east, where cattle and many species of wetland-dependent birds, hawks, and the occasional eagle can be seen. Because the local cycling club helped to build the trail, note that this one will have special features, including bridges, boardwalks, and ramps. While most enjoyable on a bike, these are still fun to explore on foot!

Flora & Fauna

On the trail itself are mostly cabbage palms; however, there are beautiful hardwood and cypress forests and the raised trail allows a great viewpoint into them.
