Overview
The Caloosahatchee Regional Park North (CRP-N) consists of 10.5 miles of trail that have been created to meet the needs of competitive mountain bikers. While the trails may have been designed for two wheels, the mix of rocky and rooty single/doubletrack makes for a great technical hike too.
Need to Know
- On a monthly basis, the direction of travel on the trail switches from clockwise to counter-clockwise. Pay attention to the directional signs at the trailhead.
- The trails may be frequently closed for weather or for events. Check the Lee County website here to make sure the trails are open before heading out. You can also call the CRP office for an update: 239-694-0398.
Description
The trails here are a mix of singletrack/doubletrack with most on compact dirt. Rocks, roots, and ruts cover a large majority of the trails making the hike technical in a lot of areas. Dirt berms and switchbacks have been added by the local trail maintenance club. A section of the trail called
Far East is the most technical section, but can be bypassed by hikers who are not up to the challenge. The trail is usually dry; however, during the summer/fall rainy season it's not unusual for portions of the trail to flood. When this happens, the county park service will decide whether-or-not to close the trail until conditions improve.
Flora & Fauna
It's not unusual to see snakes, deer, hogs/boars, and an occasional bobcat on the trail. Certain sections of the trail (approximately 60-70%) wind through tree canopy and low-hanging branches.
