Family Friendly A short, relatively easy trail with plenty of stunning views along the way.

Description

Though Garden of the Gods features enough spectacular rock formations to satisfy even the most interested geologist, few trails provide the same incredible views as seen along the Niobrara Trail. You can begin this trail at either end, as it departs from the Ridge Road and ends at Chambers Trail. No matter which way you go, you'll follow a handful of switchbacks that will lead you up a gentle climb. The going isn't terribly difficult, but your heart rate might increase.

The effort that you put into this trail is almost immediately paid back. By the time you have crested the ridge, incredible views of many of the most famous formations in the Garden of the Gods will have come into view. The effect is breathtaking! While other trails allow you to get up close and personal with the formations, this trail will give you a grand, panoramic overview of the whole area.

Once you've enjoyed the scenery, you can continue on this "U" shaped trail to return to the Ute Trail and the trailhead.

Flora & Fauna

You'll enjoy a range of desert-like vegetation, including cacti, yucca, and scrub oak. While the rock formations steal the show, keep an eye out for rabbits, lizards, and other small critters along the way.
