Description

Both visitors new to the area and those who have spent time in this incredible park can appreciate the Buckskin Charley Trail. This looped route begins an ends just to the south of the majority of the Garden of God's famous rock formations, but that doesn't mean that you'll miss anything! Instead, this easy to navigate trail provides hikers with views of familiar rock formations from a new perspective.

This loop begins and ends on the Scotsman Trail, but you can also connect this route to the Eastern Hamp Trail, and by crossing the road from the Niobrara Trail. Starting from the Scotsman Trail will allow hikers to take in the most that this route has to offer. Once you leave the Scotsman Trail, this route heads south on a winding path. The going is easy, as there's not much elevation change on this trail. Instead, take this route as an opportunity to admire the incredible sandstone features that surround you, or gaze out over the open prairie to the east.

Once you reach the southern end of the trail, you'll begin to turn back to the north. For most of the return trip heading back to the Scotsman Trail, you'll be closely following the Juniper Way Loop road. You won't achieve quite the same backcountry feel that defines other trails, but this route is still pleasant!

Though there are some pines trees, the area is mostly open, and shade will be at a premium. Be sure to bring water and sun protection, especially in the summer months!

Flora & Fauna

Visitors will be able to enjoy a mix of prairie grasses, pines, and even some scrub oak on this route.
