Description

This section of trail can be accessed most easily from the Columns Drive Parking lot.
(Address is 152, 168 Columns Drive, Marietta, GA 30067 and is labeled as "Cochran Shoals Columns Drive" on Google Maps)

This trail section is just one part of a larger loop that is Columns Drive and would not be taken independently from the rest of the loop. (It is on the far side from the parking lot access). You would, at the very least, be making your way from the Columns Drive Parking lot, taking part of the fitness path to access the Columns Drive Loop, and going around the loop. You can also access the loop from the Interstate North parking lot (to the south) and take the fitness path up to it. Also see the featured hike: Columns Drive to Sope Creek Figure 8

This is a dirt/clay singletrack mountain bike and hiking/running trail. Part of it winds along an elevation ridge with a creek bed following below for a while on the southern end. You can see the trickling creek through the trees, but it doesn't meet up right next to the trail until it bends southeast at the section between CS 15 and 17. It is just over a mile of pleasant, easy hiking with gently rolling elevation over red Georgia clay - hard-packed from frequent use by mountain bikers and visitors on foot alike. This section, like most in the system, is completely under tree cover through woods of pine, oak, sycamore, etc.

These directional signs for mountain bikers should also be noted by hikers, as they should hike in the opposite direction, against the cyclists.
