A self-guided nature trail that heads along a relatively flat path next to the rim of the canyon.

Zander Göpfert

Features Views · Wildflowers

Family Friendly This is a beautiful trail that would make for a sub-two-mile hike with views and signage to explore.

Description

To access this trail, head to the trailhead at the southeast corner of the parking area at South Rim Visitor Center. Go south on this relatively sun-exposed route where you can expect to come across a variety of plant life from sagebrush and Gambel oak to pinyon pine and Utah juniper.

This trail features a number of gorgeous views of the Gunnison River and the steep walls of the surrounding canyon. A great example of this is Tomichi Point.

This trail passes the Uplands Trail at around 0.75 miles before ending at the Campground Loop C off Rte 200.

Flora & Fauna

Juniper, sagebrush, pinyon pine, and Gambel oak.
