This trail segment starts at the Scouts Trail System trailhead sign near the valley picnic shelter. Proceed to the right and follow the trail as it winds up the river bluff. The trail provides excellent vistas of the reconstructed On-A-Slant Mandan Indian Village, the Missouri and Heart Rivers, and the cities of Bismarck and Mandan.

On top of the bluff, the trail comes south along the edge of the reconstructed infantry post. The trail then connects with the Young Hawk Interpretive Trail, which can be taken back to the starting point.
