Need to Know

As mentioned in the description, there are not a lot of trees on this trail. It is fully exposed to the sun. There is no shade to find relief from the hot summer sun. The exposed trail does dry out pretty quickly after a rain or snow.

There is a garbage can next to the radio tower for "doggie bags."

Description

At the northern end of the parking lot you'll find a kiosk, maps and the beginning of the trail. You'll turn right at the first fork to follow the trail as described here.

The beginning has some steep uphill sections but eases after a bit. At the large antenna array you'll be on dirt road as you go down the saddle and back up the other side. The summit is just to the left when you reach the high point of the road. Continue down the somewhat steep road down close to the bridge. Just before the paved bike path, turn left onto the singletrack.

Continue to follow the singletrack around the mountain going straight at both 4-way intersections and return to the parking lot.

Flora & Fauna

Not much for trees. Mostly prairie vegetation. Sometimes large herds of deer have been seen here. Rattlesnakes have been spotted on and off of this trail as well.

A herd of elk has been spotted along this trail. There are many wildflowers in the spring and early summer. Preying mantis and large beetles are among the insects on Green Mountain.

Keep on the lookout for rattlesnakes. They live here and can occasionally be seen on the trails.
