Rainbow Falls [Suggest Edits]

Description

To access the falls start by hiking from the ranger station down to Jones Gap Trail. After a nice but steep trail, climb on Rainbow Falls Trail until you'll reach Rainbow Falls. At the end of the trail there are two sections, and you'll have the cross the lower section by rocks to reach the trail that goes up to the upper section to reach the higher falls.

Rainbow Falls is a beautiful free falling cascade that is 80-100 feet high. Be careful climbing around as wet rocks can become very slippery. This is not an easy place to get help to, although higher up you might get a bar or two cell phone reception; on the lower part of the trail, there is no phone coverage.

You can also turn your hike into a double waterfall viewing by rejoining Jones Gap Trail and continuing to hike for another mile to Jones Gap Falls. These two falls are popular in this section of Jones Gap State Park since they are close to the ranger station. The other two popular falls in the area are Falls Creek Falls and Raven Cliff Falls which require a longer hike to access.

Half-Day Hike: You'll access these falls through Jones Gap State Park where you'll find parking and facilities. You'll take Jones Gap Trail from the ranger station to access the Rainbow Falls Trail.

Family Friendly: What kid wouldn't enjoy seeing waterfalls like this! The climb up and down may be tiring, but they will probably sleep well that night.
