Piton de la Fournaise [Suggest Edits]

Description

The Piton de la Fournaise is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth, as it usually erupts more than once every given year. Situated within Réunion National Park and within the World Heritage Site that goes with it, it is 2621 m high.

Half-Day Hike: The trailhead to the summit is situated at the Pas de Bellecombe, that one reaches through a forest road from the Plaine des Cafres. The trail goes down into the caldeira, passes a small volcanic cone called Formica Leo and starts climbing the volcanic giant.
