Need to Know

I once accidentally kicked a rattlesnake in tall grass along this trail. Suffering from a snake-bite, and being several miles from your car, is not a good situation. Watch for snakes. Respect that this is their home, and you are a visitor.

Description

There are many ridge-trails and canyon-trails that connect up to this trail from the Bonneville Shoreline Trail in Layton. The section shown here crosses below Thurstan Peak, and stops short of Francis Peak at the point where the Bair Canyon Trail makes the ridge. To gain the top spine of the Wasatch (which runs generally north/south), you'll have to make your way up a steep slope the locals call "the chin scraper" for reasons that will become clear.

Just topped out from the Bair Canyon trail onto the Skyline Trail. Francis Peak and radar towers in the background. It's (almost) all downhill from here.
