This trail is entirely on BLM land, but it dead-ends at a private land boundary. It's pretty obvious where the trail ends, and there's a pine tree down to block the way. PLEASE TURN AROUND and don't trespass on private land.

Need to Know

This trail enjoys a long season from mid-April through November, and the soils are well-drained so mud is rarely an issue.

Description

The WOW Trail is a brand-new singletrack out-and-back that's perfect for families, but also fun for hikers of all abilities.

To reach the trailhead, head south on Alder Creek Rd. from Banks-to-Lowman Hwy, crossing the South Fork of the Payette River and continuing up the wide gravel road for about two miles. Look for a brown post marking the trail on the right side, then park about fifty yards ahead in the large pullout on the left.

The trail starts at the brown trail marker signpost, and climbs up to a chain-link u-gate; this is the steepest part of the trail. After you're through the gate, enjoy the easy singletrack meandering through the pines for about 1.5 miles.

The trail is built on a VERY old roadbed that's been abandoned for decades, so the grade is easy and there are no technical sections. However, there are enough trees and shrubs for the trail to wander around that it's pretty fun to hike.

The name WOW stands for Wolverines on Wheels, Garden Valley's youth MTB club and racing team. This trail was built by a joint effort of the Boise County Job Creation and Retention Council, Southwest Idaho Mountain Bike Association, Bureau of Land Management, Boise County Community Justice, and Wolverines on Wheels. It represents the beginning of an effort to provide easily accessible, safe, non-motorized trails for the club, local residents, and visitors to enjoy in Garden Valley. Look for more in the near future!!

Great easy hike along switchbacks trail. No climbing or scrambling with plenty of pines and wildflowers. A couple nice places for photography. Easy…
