Description

The track starts at the Lake Mackenzie Hut (managed by the Department of Conservation). You hike on the right side of the lake towards the Mackenzie campsite. The first stretch heads across a few wooden bridges attached to the rock just above the lake. The track then heads into the beech forest towards the campsite. Beyond the campsite, the track is very rough with lots of roots and rocks. The views of the lake and all the surrounding mountains are truly stunning. The track has an anti-climactic end at a rock that is split in half in the forest near the northern end of the lake.
