Wilderness permits are required. They can be obtained on line at recreation.gov/permits. The trail entrance is JM17. There are daily quotas.

Description

Emerald Lakes are beautiful with great views across to high ridges in the distance. They would be a lot more popular if there were not so many other spectacular lakes in the area. They are shallow and sit in a flat, somewhat swampy basin. The shallowness and surrounding grass give them their emerald color.

The main reason I passed these lakes was to reach the off-trail route that leads over the ridge to Topsy Turvy Lake.
