Description

The Salmon Lake Trail begins next to a pull-out parking spot off of Road 19. Soon hikers will find themselves traveling along the edges of a pleasant meadow that blooms with wildflowers in early summer. Ahead, the trail climbs through an old growth forest of firs before crossing over granite outcroppings.

The rolling grades remain mild for the duration of the hike, as the trail navigates the contours of the glacially shaped area. Salmon Lake is approached by the Salmon Lake Spur heading southwest to the shore of the granite bowl that forms the the lake.

The trail continues winding over one last climb to the intersection with the Loch Leven Trail at the south end of lower Loch Leven. Visitors will find the swimming and camping less crowded at Salmon Lake than at Loch Leven. The fishing is worse though.
