Family Friendly This a great easy trail without obstacles or cliffs, and includes a small lake with views and shallow gradual depths perfect for kids impervious to cold. Wildflowers, and a creek to explore.

The trail and roads may be closed during heavy snow season.

Description

This is an easy trail to follow for those who just want to get out of their car to stretch their legs and explore a little but do not have much time. It is a very relaxing route with greatly rewarding views.

From the north Cascades Hwy traveling east through the North Cascades National Park, the trailhead will be on the right side just before Diablo Lake and after George Lake. It is well marked with good parking at the trailhead.

The trail meanders back through the green canopy with views of the North Cascades, Pyramid Creek, and a small waterfall. You'll be ascending near to this cool, clear stream for the majority of the trail, and there are some points where the grades are a bit strenuous. The trail ends at Pyramid Lake with its astonishing crystal clear waters reflecting the blue sky, surrounded by mountains with snow melt waterfalls flowing down into the lake. The water is icy cold, so wading or swimming can be dangerous. Though getting in the water might not be a great idea, the lake still provides an incredibly scenic ending point. It is a great time to stop and sit on the benches provided and to soak in the peacefulness surrounding you.

Flora & Fauna

You'll find a vast variety of wildflowers that are common to the Cascade Mountains.

I have to say this is NOT family friendly. There are very steep inclines without switchbacks. Lake is not worth it 4.3mi — 2h 43m
