The area, including the Eielson Visitor Center, is frequented by bears. Be aware and make noise as your travel.

When traveling by bus, plan to be back at the visitor center more than an hour before the last return bus is scheduled for the best chance of securing a spot. Buses arrive every 30 minutes.

Description

Follow the constructed trail up the face of Thoro Ridge for nearly 1,000 ft of climbing in just under a mile. Along the way, enjoy plenty of flowers, wildlife sightings, and impressive views on a clear day.

While the views of Muldrow Glacier and Denali (when it’s out) get steadily better as you climb, the real prize is the view north from the top of the ridge. A multi-colored Mount Galen and the distant hills and valleys shape a vast wilderness beauty that goes unappreciated from below. Alpine flowers also do their part to brighten the sights when in bloom. When you're done soaking up the views, retrace your steps back to the visitor center.
