Hike along the lake! There were several water snakes sunning at the north end of the lake the day we hiked it.

Description

The day we hiked this trail was in early April, the lake was up and it was very muddy in some spots at the north end. Waterproof boots are a must. Once we got past that area, it was a much better surface and a very nice hike, but we were on edge every 20 feet or so as water snakes kept bailing off the side of the lake into the water. We got a pic of one of them from a distance and don't believe it was venomous; we think it is a plain-belly water snake. The snakes were all north and a little bit south of the swinging bridge.

There is another area that you may have to go around using connectors if it's flooded; I'll mark it on the trail. Overall, this is a very nice trail and very full of wildlife.

You can't see me... We think we identified this as a Plainbelly water snake.

It was about here where we started running into water snakes. I doubt they were poisonous, they just gave us the heebie jeebies when they'd slither off into the water really quickly
