The town of Fletcher, a little south of Asheville, is a good choice for a run close by the Asheville Regional Airport. Here, the Cane Creek Greenway offers about three miles of trail on a hard-packed gravel running trail, which winds through a shady canopy of trees and past the park's playgrounds, disc golf course, sports fields, and features an outdoor exercise station.

The Greenway has two different loop options once you start hiking. The first you encounter takes you along the creek and through the forest on the western side, and through farmland on the eastern side. The eastern side provides no tree cover and can get quite muddy after a rain.

The second loop is close to the end of the greenway. It offers interpretive signs about wetlands and their importance as well as a tranquil stroll through the woods.
