Description

This is a great trail that sends you up and into the Shining Rock Wilderness area, with amazing other trail access and loop opportunities (I recommend combining with Art Loeb, MST, and one of the other trail options to bring you back to the Sunburt area).

It is a slow and gradual climb to the ridge, and it just flows from there. Like many trails in that area, it is a bit rugged and not too maintained. I love that. Others may not. Not one person was spotted on this trail during the peak of fall colors, while there were flocks on other trails in the area.

The views are fantastic from the ridge line, the colors were amazing, and there's a wonderful sense of stillness and wild along this trail.

There is an invigorating river crossing to start the climb. During higher flows this might be more complicated.
