Need to Know

The trail is only accessible by boat. The nearest public access is the AGFC boat launch near the hatchery off of Hatchery Rd. It is a 0.8 mile float to the western trailhead.

Description

The trail is a well-implemented singletrack nature trail that wonders around the island in a 2-mile loop. Due to prescribed fire, implemented by The Nature Conservancy, the pine-oak-hickory woodlands are open, allowing for wildflowers to bloom in the understory. You'll pass by some old homesites, with rock chimneys still intact, on either end of the island.

The preserve is managed in part by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission as a Wildlife Management Area, although there is no hunting or camping permitted on the island. There are two trailheads in which to access the island, both with large coves for parking boats, on the eastern and western most points of the island.
