Description

Start at the well-marked sign at the east end of Fontana Village. Upper Lewellyn is pretty tame but Lower Lewellyn is a rock fest and has a section with a pretty big drop-off above the road.

The village typically runs daily hikes on the trail in the afternoon. An added side effect is that this trail is relatively well-maintained compared to some of the others.

Combine together with the Gold Branch trail and Old Fontana Forest Road for a longer loop.

Nice trail with blooming rhododendrons. No other traffic. A couple of down trees to hop over. Follows Fontana Dam Road switchbacks. Mostly shady 2.7mi — 1h 20m
