Overview

Incredible views and stunning scenery await hikers on this great loop.

Description

The beginning of the loop has a water supply, but note that this supply is located only at the very beginning of the stream that flows into the Peixe Tolo Waterfall.

Much of the first section of the course heads uphill on a mostly gentle slope; there are no technical sections, but for those who are not used to climbing it becomes tiring. You'll reach a small creek where you can enjoy views of the Peaks of Lapinha. You may also enjoy an incredible sunset if you decide to camp here.

Arriving at the top of the mountain, you'll see the whole extension of the Peixe Tolo Canyon and a little further. From the highest point, the route continues downhill. In some stretches, there is no marked trail and you'll hike along open altitude fields. It is best to use a GPS or the Hiking Project mobile app in order to follow the track for these sections. The Peixe Tolo Spur Trail is a short path that branches to the south. The intersection may be confusing as there are stone markers without a visible trail, but if you pay attention, you should be able to find your way.

Another interesting point is the lookout point of the Rabo de Cavalo Waterfall; follow the Rabo de Cavalo Waterfall Viewpoint Trail, a well-marked trail with easy access. From this point, the route up to the upper part of the Altar Falls, the trail becomes a bit confusing, but you'll see that the trail is well used.

When arriving at the stream in the upper part of the Cachoeira Alta, you have two options. First, you can follow the river to the left and go down by the waterfall; this is a quiet path, but not recommended with rain. Otherwise, continue to follow the track.

Leaving the Cachoeira do Altar, there is a trail that heads through the forest above a very steep slope. After a few kilometers of hiking through the woods, you'll find you are descending steadily back toward your starting point. Navigating the rest of the loop is very easy.
