Description

The trails in the Lakes Basin are short but very rugged in sections and may require traversing through the occasional boulders and rock outcrops.

Start at the Gold Lake Lodge trailhead. This is also the trailhead for the Round Lake Trail. The trails are generally well signed. Stay right soon after leaving the trailhead for Bear Lakes. The loop can be done in either direction and it will be described clockwise.

From the end of the Bear Lakes Connector (12E32), go left and pass by Big Bear Lake on your left. Soon after, you'll pass Little Bear Lake on the left. You'll then make a rocky climb to the south end of Long Lake.

At the next junction, go right and travel along the base of Long Lake. Left goes to the Long Lake Connector Trail. You'll meander though through the open woods until intersecting with the Grass Lake Trail. Go right to head south back to Big Bear Lake. The next intersection will complete the loop. Take a left to head back to the trailhead.
