Family Friendly A short trail with interpretive signage and nice views of the Missouri River.

Description

This trail is on the grounds of the Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery. The Garrison Dam National Fish Hatchery is located in central North Dakota, an hour's drive north of Bismarck on U.S. Highway 83, then west on U.S. Highway 200. From Riverdale, follow signs for the Fish Hatchery.

The trail can be accessed via the Wetlands Trail or from the Downstream Campground at the southwestern end of the trail. This is an interpretive trail that meanders through a floodplain cottonwood forest with signage about the Lewis and Clark Expedition. There are nice views of the Missouri River and the high river bluffs on the west side of the river, as well as the Garrison Dam Power Plant.

Flora & Fauna

White-tailed deer, muskrat, beaver, great blue heron, killdeer, red-winged blackbird, fox squirrel, turkey vulture, bald eagle, eastern cottonwood, green ash, boxelder.
