This is a neat trail. There is a good mix of terrain, from forest to grasslands, to marsh. After passing though a campground and crossing the river, there is a steep climb where you can either continue for the full 17 km loop or take the cutoff to shorten the hike to 10 km.

The trail starts off as a singletrack trail through the woods along a creek. There are some steep climbs up and down, with moderate scrambling. The ranger station is located at the end of the first part. After that, you have a short paved trail though a campground and across a bridge. After that it's either back to singletrack in the woods, or across the shortcut along an old logging road (flat and straight, but a but rough).

The end of the trail goes through open grassland and then finishes on a boardwalk through a marsh. Overall, this hike provides a great variety of terrain.
