Overview

Climbing Flattop is the thing to do for Anchorage outdoor enthusiasts. You probaly won't be alone, but the trail is easy to follow all the way up. There is a bit of rock scrambling just before the summit. The round trip distance is about 3.5 miles.

Description

The trail ascends a total of 1300 ft through a small grove of mountain hemlock before reaching treeline. The trail then traverses Blueberry Hill before reaching the saddle at the base of Flattop. The trail steepens and travels through talus fields on its way to Flattop’s summit. The upper route is identified by paint markings on the rocks. You'll have 360-degree views of Anchorage, Chugach State Park, and Cook Inlet from the top.
